Why ISIY loves Surf with Amigas

Both ISIY Founder & Director (Stacey) & Brand Ambassador Director (Cydney) attended a retreat with Holly Beck Obermeyer, so they can wholeheartedly refer people to her retreats for their fun atmosphere, surf coaching prowess and well-rounded experience of adventure. It’s not just about the retreat experience though! We admire Holly’s support with Waves of Hope over the years, with her commitment and effort to give this important non-profit organization more exposure. You can see how passionate she is about helping the local community during your trip; she has made a genuine commitment to sustainable tourism in the area. On top of this, she’s also committed to protecting the environment and reducing her footprint through her and her husband’s website HipEhabitat, in which they build eco-friendly homes and furnishings while sharing their knowledge with others.

Stacey first saw Holly back in 2001 on the cover of a girls surf magazine and has been a big fan her style of surfing ever since. Watching her surf up close on the retreat was a special treat! Listening to her stories about how she first started surfing and got better were inspiring too; Holly has that kind of mentality where she wants something and goes after it! Holly is super fun, intelligent and fearless - plenty to admire.

Lastly, Holly has a knack for drawing in the best instructors and people to help her make the Surf with Amigas retreats such an incredible experience for her guests. The women that take over when Holly can’t be there are rock-solid surfers, instructors and all-around awesome people to spend time with. You will have a blast!

Holly Beck Obermeyer – Owner/Operator/Surf Instructor

Holly grew up the oldest of five girls in Palos Verdes, CA. She always loved the water and wanted to learn to surf around age 12 but her very old-fashioned mother would not allow it, telling her, “surfing is for boys, you’ll never get a boyfriend out there competing with them. You should be sitting on the beach looking cute in a bikini!” By the age of 15 Holly had saved up babysitting money, bought herself a surfboard and a wetsuit and never looked back.
In June of 2001, Holly graduated from UCSD with a degree in Psychology and won the amateur National Surfing Championships. She turned pro and spent the next 10 years traveling all over the world to places like Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Peru, South Africa, Gabon, Sao Tome, the Seychelles, the Andaman Islands, Hawaii, Tahiti, Fiji, England, France, Portugal, Ecuador, the Galapagos, Mexico, and Costa Rica. On a trip to Nicaragua in 2006 she fell in love with the warm water waves, friendly locals, and laid-back lifestyle, bought land, and began to fantasize about moving to Central America full time.

Holly earned an MBA in Marketing while traveling and crafted a business plan to start a women’s surf school in Nicaragua. In 2010, she founded Suave Dulce, later changing the name to Surf With Amigas. She believes that anything is possible if you are willing to work hard and visualize success. As further proof of this philosophy, Holly now lives in Nicaragua full time with her awesome husband Kim, baby girl Luna, and their two dogs and three horses.
